Ahern Rentals Keeps the Power Coming
Thursday, August 5, 2010
One of the many details that has to be handled when organizing a large event on the grounds of Harrison Middle School is that there aren't a lot of power outlets around. In fact there's only one source of power in the open area. Enter Ahern Rentals, which rents industrial equipment. They have provided a large generator for New Mexico Youth Day.
Thank you Ahern Rentals for ensuring we can run PA systems, coolers, and whatever else needs power. We're also grateful that this is a quiet generator

Sam's Club's Gift Satisfies Thirst
Wednesday, August 4, 2010
No one should be going thirsty at the New Mexico Youth Day Celebration, thanks to a generous contribution of bottled water from Sam's Club. They have donated 5,000 bottles.
Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids is grateful for the help, and we expect a whole lot of thirsty people will be grateful too this Saturday.

Creamland Dairy Cool With Popsicles
Wednesday, August 4, 2010
Creamland Dairy has just demonstrated their support for New Mexico youth with a pledge of 1,000 red, white, and blue popsicles.
With the warm days we're having, a whole lot of people will appreciate having a cold, refreshing popsicle after running around. Our thanks go out to Creamland Dairy for their support of New Mexico Youth Day.

Reddy Ice, Sandia Ice Fill Critical Need

Wednesday, August 4, 2010
All those popsicles aren't going to be very good if they melt, and warm bottled water isn't very satisfying on a hot day. We needed ice, lots of ice, and Reddy Ice came through for the kids of New Mexico with a whole lot of ice. Half a ton to be exact. That's enough ice to cool down a whole lot of water bottles.
The local distributor for Reddy Ice, Sandia Ice, made a critical contribution of the use of a cooler to store this mountain of ice. Many thanks to the ice companies for helping to keep visitors comfortable on Youth Day.

Thanks to Gloria for helping us keep the kids fed and happy.

Governor's Youth Day Proclamation
Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Governor Bill Richardson issued a proclamation today recognizing August 7 as New Mexico Youth Day.
Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids sends thanks to our governor but most importantly to New Mexico's youth for their great efforts at staying in school and developing their potential to the fullest.
We would also like to take this opportunity to repeat our challenge to our senators and congressmen to help us get a National Youth Day proclaimed nationwide. This would make our kids feel more like they are a vital part of this great country. We are also looking for our community leaders to take a stand for America's youth and push their representatives. Our kids will do whatever it takes to make this day a reality.

Program Combats Underage Drinking
Wednesday, July 28, 2010
As everyone knows, alcohol use is a major threat to New Mexico youth, and by many measures New Mexico has the biggest problems of any state in the nation. For example, New Mexico has the highest rates in the nation of youth drinking under age 13 and drinking on school property.
One organization that is working to reduce underage drinking is Excel Educational Enterprises, Inc. We are proud to announce that Excel will host an Underage Drinking Town Hall to address the problems of alcohol and drugs in our community. This event will run on New Mexico Youth Day from 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.. In spite of the title, this is not a political meeting. Excel has developed a program with fun activities for kids that will educate them about the impact of underage drinking in an entertaining way. Participants will also discuss possible solutions to this issue. Parents, teachers, and community members are invited to attend as well as youth.
For more information, contact Theresa Williams at (505) 331-0223.

County Employee Gets Seniors Involved
Monday, July 26, 2010
As we announced earlier in July, this year's New Mexico Youth Day will include activities for seniors at Rio Bravo Senior Center, adjacent to Harrison Middle School. The main feature will be a Wii bowling tournament, along with other games and a free lunch.
What we didn't announce is how this event came to be. Carmen Pricer, who works as Youth & Senior Program Coordinator for Bernalillo County, was immediately enthusiastic when she heard the idea of including seniors in the Youth Day celebration. She jumped right into getting approval, planning publicity, and making the logistical arrangements. With her dedication and hard work, we know this program is in very good hands.
Thank you, Carmen, for helping to make New Mexico Youth Day a success.

Garcia's Tents Keeps on Giving
Steve Garcia, owner of Garcia's Tents and Events
Monday, July 26, 2010
Like so many businesses, Garcia's Tents and Events has taken a hit on sales this year. In spite of the troubled business environment, owner Steve Garcia showed his concern for the kids by helping out considerably with a tent and equipment to be used at this year's New Mexico Youth Day celebration.
Steve has helped Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids in previous years, and we greatly appreciate his steadfast and continuing support.

Thursday, July 22, 2010
Desert Corn Gallery NM has donated a valuable handmade necklace (pictured at left) and several signed prints to help Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids raise money. Raffle tickets for the jewelry will be sold throughout the day at New Mexico Youth Day, and the winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the day. Drawings for the prints will be held throughout the day. After 35 tickets are sold, there will be a drawing for a print, then a new raffle will start for the next print.
The necklace is a unique handmade piece by Navajo artist Harry Sandoval, Jr. It is titled "Colors of Beauty". The stones in the pendant are blue lapis, turquoise, and carnelian. The three strands are made of lapis, turquoise, and orange spiney oyster shell. Sandoval is a master jeweler; similar works by him sell for about $500.

Radio Stations Support Youth Day
Thursday, July 22, 2010
Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids, sends out a big shoutout to Gina Gonzales of American General Media for going above and beyond the call of duty for New Mexico youth. Gina and her staff worked tirelessly to find a sponsor for radio advertising for New Mexico Youth Day, bringing Hinkle Family Fun Center on board (see next story).
In addition, Gina's concern for our cause led two of AGM's top radio stations to set up live feeds from the Youth Day celebration on August 7. From 10 a.m. to noon OMG 97.7 and Power 106 will be set up to broadcast from Harrison Middle School, so this will be your chance to meet dee-jays from these stations.
Finally, Gina is seeing to it that we get some public service announcements on the air to compliment our paid radio advertising.
Many thanks to Gina and the staff at American General Media.

Hinkle Helps With Radio Ad Buy
Thursday, July 22, 2010
Hinkle Family Fun Center fits right in with our theme of families spending time together, and they have contributed to previous New Mexico Youth Day celebrations with, for example, passes to their facility.
This year Hinkle has agreed to give Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids and New Mexico Youth Day a major publicity boost by buying radio advertising. The ads are scheduled to start running this Monday.
In this day and age there's no more efficient way to get the word out to kids about events than to advertise them on the radio, so we're looking forward to a considerably bigger crowd this year because of this help from Hinkle Family Fun Center.

Thursday, July 22, 2010
Danny Granger, a former Lobo who now stars with the Indiana Pacers, is a great example of someone acting on their concern for kids in New Mexico. Every year he comes to Albuquerque and runs on a basketball camp for kids. This year over 150 players participated.
Granger and his family took a minute to talk to Keefe Ricks, CEO of Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids, and he expressed his support for a state and eventually a national Youth Day.
Each in our own ways are doing what we can to care for New Mexico's youth, and we salute Danny Granger's efforts.

Thunderbird Mascot Trey To Fly In
Friday, July 16, 2010
The New Mexico Thunderbirds will help out at New Mexico Youth Day by sending their thunderbird mascot, Trey, to the festivities. This will be your chance to get close to the rowdy raptor, who actually likes children in spite of being a carnivore.
The Thunderbirds are also recognizing the talent of our youth by inviting the top singer and dance team in our Talent Search to perform at a home game in Santa Ana Star Center this season.
The Thunderbirds are in the NBA Development League and are associated with the New Orleans Hornets and the Orlando Magic. For more information on the team, click here.

Fledgling Philanthropists Find Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids
Tuesday, July 13, 2010
Mark and Susan Harmon were looking for a meaningful way to give back to the community when they discovered Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids just a few weeks ago. Their presence on the team has been a blessing, as they have been working around the clock lining up sponsors for the Fourth Annual New Mexico Youth Day. They have shown their concern and dedication to the youth of New Mexico in a very practical way.
For their part, the Harmons say that it's a joy to be able to help a good cause, and they feel lucky to have found an organization devoted to helping children.
In their professional lives, the Harmons are owners of Cool Breeze Investments, LLC, a real estate investment firm.
It would be an understatement to say that Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids is looking forward to a long and productive relationship with Mark and Susan.

Aaron's Community Outreach Program Comes Up Big for NM Youth Day
Wednesday, July 7, 2010
Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids will be able to raise some serious money thanks to a generous gift from the rental store Aaron's at Central and Atrisco NW. They have donated a living room set (pictured at right), which will be given to the lucky person with the winning raffle ticket.
Raffle tickets will be on sale at the event site.
Aaron's will also be adding to the event with their own tent, where they will have different giveaways and furniture displays.
Aaron's donation comes to us through the generosity of Aaron's Community Outreach Program. We send our thanks to the program for this gift, and to general manager Allen Smith, who made it happen and arranged for Aaron's to have their tent at New Mexico Youth Day.
The person with the winning ticket will take home everything in this picture, except for the yellow tags. For a bigger view of the living room set, click here.

Home Depot Helping NMYD
Venessa Muñoz, store manager for Home Depot at Coors and I-40.Monday June 19 2010
The Home Depot at Coors and the I-40 overpass will offer a building workshop for kids at this year's Fourth Annual New Mexico Youth Day. In the workshop, kids will build a small carpentry project and learn tool safety. They will also receive a kid-sized orange apron like Home Depot employees wear, and an achievement pin. Best of all, this activity will give kids and adults some valuable time together, which is the biggest goal of New Mexico Youth Day.
Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids thanks store manager Venessa Muñoz (pictured at left) for arranging this activity. She has also been a great support for kids in the Northwest Albuquerque area by giving them jobs and going the extra mile to help them succeed.
These two Home Depot employees always welcome you with a smile. Diego, at left, is a pro-loader, and Shawn is a Pro-Desk associate. Any time you need help they always give you a smile and support.
Prime Time For the Kids, For the Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization registered in the state of New Mexico.
